Cambridge asks for two things in the same building: a kitchen that survives a lunch rush and a room where the surface has to be inert, cleanable and dead flat. Both are stainless problems.

Kitchens, labs and everything with a badge reader

Dining halls and campus kitchens, restaurant work in Kendall, Central and Harvard Square, and the lab and clean room side of the same buildings: bench tops, sinks, splash, carts and cabinetry where the material has to answer for what will be spilled on it.

Working inside an institution

Access is scheduled, not assumed. Deliveries land in a window somebody else controls, freight elevators are shared and a hallway is a corridor for other people while you are in it. We plan the piece and the visit around that, and we would rather split a run at a corner than argue with a door frame at seven in the morning.

The drawing is the contract

On institutional work the shop drawing gets read by people who never come to the site: procurement, the architect, the dealer, the installer. Ours are dimensioned to be read that way, and we would rather answer a question on the drawing than defend a piece on the floor.

Questions we get

Do you handle lab and non food surfaces?

Yes. Bench, sink, splash and cabinetry, with the material picked for what is actually being handled on it.

Can you supply a shop drawing for review?

That is the normal path. The assembly is drawn and dimensioned before metal is cut, and the drawing goes out for review as part of the job.

Is one bench top too small a job?

No. A single piece, a single weld, a single stand. It gets the same drawing and the same finish as a full run.
